Introduction to Montessori land and water forms Cards:
There are 2 levels of lessons in this activity, for 2-4 year and 5-8 years old. For the little ones, starting with the paired land is simpler to understand and follows the Montessori guidelines. You will notice there are several long and difficult words to pronounce in the list. Make this a fun game and you’ll be able to get them laughing about their strange sounds.
As a result, you’ll help their absorbent minds turn these unusual words into active vocabulary with repetition and practice. System of Lake: a group of lakes in the same area usually containing fresh water.
Archipelago: a cluster of islands grouped together in the ocean.
Have the student lay out a set of paired felt pieces (island and lake) and point to each one.
When we introduce each pair this is the language I use.

| Peninsula | a long piece of land that sticks out into the ocean, is surrounded by water and is connected to the mainland. |
| Gulf | a long body of water that reaches to the land. |
| Isthmus | a narrow piece of land connecting two large piece of land at each end that is surrounded on both side by water. |
| Strait | a narrow passageway of water connected to two large bodies of water and at each end. |
